The National Student Leadership Conference relies on the contributions of its staff to make each conference experience successful.

The NSLC is looking for enthusiastic, hard-working individuals who enjoy working with high school students and have experience in the academic fields of our programs, leadership development, residential life, and/or office administration.

Team Advisor (TA)

Team Advisors guide students through their NSLC experience. Each TA is responsible for a small group of 12-16 students. TAs generally work either half or whole summers.

As a TA, you will:

  • Lead small group discussions and debriefings
  • Teach academic and leadership sessions
  • Assist Administrative staff, Professors and Leadership Facilitators with program components
  • Serve as a chaperone during off-campus trips and evening social activities
  • Reside in the dormitory on the same floors as students, serving as a Resident Advisor

Qualifications: Before applying to be a Team Advisor, please note:

  • Team Advisors are generally current college sophomores – seniors. Current freshman are generally considered for one of our Intern positions.
  • Applicants should be familiar with all program specific information posted on this site.
  • NSLC has a primary focus on leadership development. Applicants should have leadership experience and/or training.
  • Our programs include TA-led sessions that require appropriate educational backgrounds and work/volunteer/intern experience.

Requirements: Please note the following requirements of our programs before applying to be a Team Advisor.

  • Acting Intensive / Theater: candidates should have completed college coursework in the theater (acting, directing, stage management or playwrighting) or should be an active participant in the theater.
  • Biotechnology: candidates should have completed coursework in the fields of science, engineering, and/or mathematics; or have relevant experience with hands-on design, problem solving, and project management.
  • Business & Entrepreneurship / Sports Management: candidates should have completed coursework or have experience in entrepreneurship, marketing, basic business curriculum (including accounting, economics, management, etc.), and/or sports & entertainment management.
  • Cybersecurity: Candidates should be studying, have extra-curricular background, or interned in the field of Cybersecurity, Computer Science/Engineering and/or National Security/Intelligence. Python experience is preferred.
  • Engineering/Aerospace: candidates should have completed coursework in the fields of science, engineering, and/or mathematics; or have relevant experience with hands-on design, problem solving, and project management.
  • Entertainment Management: candidates should have completed relevant coursework and have experience in entertainment management and business. NSLC has a primary focus on leadership development. Applicants should have leadership experience and/or training.
  • Environmental Science: Candidates should have completed coursework in the fields of environmental science, environmental studies, forestry, environmental engineering, or a related field. Candidates should have relevant experience with or a strong interest in the outdoors, sustainability initiatives, climate change, environmental studies, and project management. NSLC has a primary focus on leadership development. Applicants should have leadership experience and/or training.
  • Film, Journalism & Media Arts: candidates should have completed coursework or have work experience within a field of communication (including journalism, film, photography, public relations, etc.)
  • Forensic Science: candidates should preferably be enrolled in a forensics or criminal justice program or have completed coursework related to forensic sciences. However, candidates who are interested in forensics and are enrolled in a biology or chemistry program or have a strong background in a related science are also welcome.
  • Game Design: candidates should have completed coursework or have work experience within game design. NSLC has a primary focus on leadership development. Applicants should have leadership experience and/or training.
  • Intelligence & National Security: candidates should be studying or have interned in the field of U.S. Foreign Policy, International Relations, and/or National Security/Intelligence. ROTC, Model United Nations or Mock-Congress experience is helpful.
  • International Diplomacy: candidates should be studying or have interned in the field of International Relations and/or Foreign Service. Model United Nations experience is preferred.
  • Law & Advocacy: candidates should have a working knowledge of trial advocacy. Mock Trial experience is preferred.
  • Marine Biology: candidates should have completed coursework in marine biology, marine sciences, oceanography or similar fields. Candidates should have a strong interest in the marine sciences.
  • Mastering Leadership: candidates should have extensive experience/involvement with high school or youth leadership development and/or leadership organizations such as student government associations, peer education groups, community service organizations, or youth outreach programs.
  • Medicine & Health Care: candidates should have completed coursework in pre-med and science courses and a strong interest in the health care field. Work or internships in medical or research facilities is highly favored. EMT training is a plus.
  • Nursing: candidates should have completed coursework in pre-med and/or nursing, and have a strong interest in the health care field. Work or internships in medical or research facilities is highly favored. EMT training is a plus.
  • Political Action & Public Policy: candidates must have political experience or be actively studying political science. New candidates should have internship or campaign experience.
  • Psychology & Neuroscience: candidates should have completed coursework in pre-health and science courses and have a strong interest in the neuroscience, psychology and/or the health care field. Work or internships in medical or research facilities is highly favored. NSLC has a primary focus on leadership development. Applicants should have leadership experience and/or training.
  • Veterinary Medicine: candidates should have completed coursework in pre-vet and biology courses and have a strong interest in the animal science and veterinary medicine. Work, internships, volunteering, or shadowing in veterinary, animal care, or research facilities is highly favored.

Compensation: In addition to room, board and travel, TAs receive a stipend at the end of each session.


Assistant Team Advisor (ATA)

Assistant Team Advisors are given the opportunity to work hands-on with NSLC program staff and work directly with students. This is a position of learning, being in service, and contributing to the NSLC program. Many of our past ATAs have considered this position as a “team advisor in training” since TA applicants with ATA experience are given first priority and special consideration. Each ATA is assigned to shadow a Team Advisor (TA) and assist with a small group of 12-16 students. ATAs generally work at least two sessions.

As an ATA, you will:

  • Assist with TA-led small group discussions and debriefings
  • Assist with TA facilitated academic and leadership sessions
  • Assist Administrative staff, Professors, and Leadership Facilitators to prepare activities and ensure site rooms are properly equipped and set for all conference events
  • Serve as a chaperone during off-campus trips and evening social activities
  • Reside in the dormitory on the same floors as students, serving as a Resident Advisor

Qualifications: Before applying to be an ATA, please note:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age before arriving on-site.
  • ATAs are current college freshmen.
  • Applicants should be familiar with all program specific information posted on this site.
  • NSLC has a primary focus on leadership development. Applicants should have leadership experience and/or training.
  • NSLC alumni may be given preference.

Photographer/Videographer (PV)

The Photographer/Videographer captures moments of a student’s NSLC experience for family, friends, and parents at home. This content will be used for our blog, social platforms, and marketing materials. The PV works for the whole summer at an NSLC campus (to review this year’s dates, please visit www.nslcleaders.org/dates-locations).

Requirements: Please note the following requirements before applying to be a Photographer/Videographer.

As a PV, you will:

  • Shoot, edit and upload daily photographs to Flickr
  • Manage and update a WordPress Site
  • Film b-roll and interview students and guest speakers, uploading content to NSLC video editors
  • Work with the Social Media Strategist to capture content for marketing materials
  • Work closely with On-site Administration
  • Perform occasional office tasks

Qualifications: Before applying to be a PV, please note:

  • Preference is given to upper level college students and graduate students.
  • 3+ years of photo editing experience in Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop
  • 2+ years of film experience including Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Basic knowledge of lighting and color correction for photograph editing

  • Good aesthetic eye for capturing content

Compensation: In addition to room, board and travel, PVs will receive a stipend throughout the summer.


Video Editor (VE)

The video editor compiles content from all NSLC locations, editing summer blog material for social platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube. Working remotely, the video editor will organize all footage, edit approximately three videos for each NSLC site per session, and work with NSLC’s marketing team to archive materials for future use (to review this year’s dates, please visit www.nslcleaders.org/dates-locations). Notice: This job is fully remote.

Requirements: Please note the following requirements before applying to be a Video Editor.

As a VE, you will:

  • Edit summer blog videos for all NSLC locations, working with each on-site PV to collect materials. This will be content that tells a story using interviews with students, guest speaker and b-roll.
  • Upload content to YouTube.
  • Organize all materials as they are delivered for future archival purposes.
  • Work with the Marketing team to ensure needs are met for summer blog and future marketing, evaluating content in real time.

Qualifications: Before applying to be a Video Editor, please note:

  • Preference is given to recent college graduates and graduate students. You should think of this as a starting or early career position.
  • 3+ years of video editing experience in Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • A fast internet connection for downloading large files from all NSLC locations.
  • Ability to color and sound correct all materials in Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Highly organized individual able to sort content for future archival purposes.
  • Collaborative work ethic that responds to notes and quick turn around times for revisions.
  • URL link to demo reel with a portfolio of edited video content, with a preference towards documentary or corporate interview style content.
  • Good aesthetic eye for editing and ability to cut fast paced, engaging editorial content.

Compensation: Video Editors will receive a stipend throughout the summer.


Office Manager (OM)

In addition to the responsibilities and qualifications of an Office Assistant listed above, Office Managers are primarily responsible for supervising and managing the NSLC on-site office. OMs must work the entire summer, from set-up to break-down of the site.

As an OM, you will:

  • Serve all functions of the Office Assistant
  • Supervise Office Assistants
  • Facilitate in hiring Office Assistants
  • Work closely with On-site Administration

Compensation: In addition to room, board and travel, OMs will receive a stipend throughout the summer.


Site/Office Assistant (OA)

Site/Office Assistants are responsible for completing the daily tasks of the NSLC on-site office. OAs generally work the entire summer, from set-up to break-down of the site.

As an OA, you will:

  • Work with the Office Manager to complete all daily administrative tasks in the on-site office
  • Prepare for and facilitate program arrival and departure days
  • Assist the program staff with setting up program activities
  • Assist with Site Set-up at the beginning of the summer and Site Break-down at the end of the summer
  • Serve as a liaison between the NSLC on-site office and the NSLC Enrollment Office
  • Serve as a liaison between the NSLC on-site office and the University or Conference Center

Qualifications: Before applying to be an Site/Office Assistant, please note:

  • Assistants are generally current college students.
  • Applicants should be familiar with the NSLC.
  • NSLC has a primary focus on leadership development. Applicants should have leadership experience and/or training.
  • Office experience is preferred.
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Access) proficiency is required.
  • Must be a self-starter, flexible and willing to work long hours.
